Okay, so Santorini has been AMAZING to say the least. It isnt quite what we expected it to be, but we still love it. We are staying in Kamari Beach and while it is really cool, it isnt as beautiful as we thought it would be (well, Tara and I are a bit spoiled from Sardinia). Anyways, yesterday we went on an excursion of the island of Santorini and a few of the islands right around it. It started with us taking a bus through the windy roads of the island of Santorini all the way to the other side where we boarded a sail boat. Our first stop was the island or "cadera" where we climbed/hiked the active volcano. The volcano wasn't too exciting in and of itself because it wasn't erupting lava, but it was still smoking. The island was quite an obstacle to climb since it was mostly black lava rock and uneven gravel, but it gave beautiful 360 degree views of the islands surrounding Santorini. After spending an hour on the cadera, we boarded the boat and headed to another island which only has one inhabitant, a man with his goats and chickens. On this island we had the opportunity to get off and swim in natural hot springs. After the hot springs, we went to another island called Thirassia. Thirassia was really cute. It is a small island where there are only about 700 people living. We ate lunch and hung out for about an hour and then headed back to the main island of Santorini but to the city of Oia.
Oia was the most picturesque part of Santorini. The city of Oia is on the top of a cliff so in order to get there from the boat we had to either climb more than 370 stairs or we could ride a donkey. We chose the donkey! (I bet you've seen a house fly, maybe even a horse fly, but I bet you ain't never seen a donkey fly!!) My donkey decided to take off before Tara or Katie had even saddled up so we didnt all get to ride up together, but I did get to see Katie's face as the donkey literally galloped up the staircase/treacherous precipice that dropped right off into the ocean. PRICELESS. The town of Oia is just like you would picture so we wandered around for a while and then decided to find the perfect restaurant to eat dinner at while we watched the famous Oia sunset. The sunset was gorgeous and really neat to see since it is completely different from the sunsets we see at home. After the sunset we had about 5 minutes to get to the bus station and there were like 5349545435 tourist so Tara and I trailed behind Katie as she plowed through the crowd like a mad mom at Disneyland. We made it to the bus and then got dessert at the pool bar where the owner of the hotel decided to tell the other guest that the reason I was exhausted and wanted to go to bed so early was because I killed a shark while at the hot springs. I love Greece.
Our last day in Santorini went as follows: woke up and ate yogurt and honey, we each read an entire book at the pool, ate greek salads for lunch, went to dinner where we ate gyros and all got free dessert (banana splits) cause we are hot, went to bed exhausted from our rough day in Greece.
The following pictures are not in order sorry :(
